A clean system is an efficient system
It is increasingly common for heating systems to experience poor circulation, luke warm radiators, increased noise, banging and cold radiators. These are symptoms of a mix of problems, including air in the system, an unbalanced system and a build-up of ‘sludge’ (corrosion) in radiators and pipes.
The net result is that your boiler has to work harder to heat your home which will increase your gas bill. A powerflush is a process whereby all of the system water is removed and each radiator is individually flushed to get the sludge out of the bottom. The system is then refilled with clean water.
A device called a magnetic filter can also be added to prevent any bits of corroded metal getting into the boiler and damaging internal parts.
Long term it is best to remove air from the system on an ongoing basis by fitting a device known as a dearator. Air in the system is the only reason system corrode. The most effective solution is to remove the air and prevent corrosion occurring in the first instance.
